Deep Amavasya 12 August 2026 , Wednesday

This Amavasya comes with end of Ashadh, in Maharshtra is called as Akadi Amavasya its dedeicated to Pitra of our lineage.

My Nani use to call is as Divyanchi Amavasya, she told us that after this Amavasya Sharvan Month starts.
On Amavasya ladies make 7 diya for wheat floor and light in house in diferent places like on in Puja ghar , on in kitchen , one in front of door and near tulsi plant and in all rooms of the house so diya are made as per number of rooms and one diya for peepla or banyan tree.
In Maharashtra people eat there last non-veg meal on this day and from the next day they only go on veg meal for entire Shravan month.

Why is Deep Amavasya Celebrated ?

Deep Amavasya is celebrated thousands of years ago , My Nani was told in her childhood that her father use to celebrate Deep Amavasya to welcome the auspious month of Sharvan.
My Nani was from farmer's family they use to light Diya to get blessings from Mata Laxmi so that their crops would grows without any natural calamity.
Lighting Diya was like prayer to Lord Vishnu to keep heavy monsoon normal and bless the farm crops so that they wont be any type of heavy loss.

Deep Amavasya : Celebrations in Maharashtrian House

In Maharashtrian house all diya cleaned and lighted so in our house our mother use to clean all diya so there use to be on silver diya and 2 brass diya and some mud diya left after diwali and on top of it we use to make 5 to 7 floor diya so this day is like lighiting diya like we light in Diwali.

Deep Amavasya : Light Diya in 3 rooms

We follow this on every Deep Amavasya we light diya in all rooms but as in Mumbai houses are nor big as compared to village house so in Mumbai we keep standard rules while lighting diya.
These are 3 Places in house where we ligth diya.
1. One diya in Puja Room it must face in North or East direction.
2. One near Tulsi Plant.
3. One diya in front of House.

Deep Amavasya : Know Facts about Lighting Diyas

Lighting Diya's in house changes the negative energy in Pure Satvik Positive Energy so each place where diya is kept has special purpose.

1. The Puja Room (Facing North or East)

The East Direction

My Nani called the East Direction as Place of Surya or Surya Disha (Direction) , as per her knowledge she said that Sun represents fire which is symbol of beginning , so keeping lighted diya in this direction is honor to surya devta to get his blessings for new start in life.
Nani told us that this direction will give Good Health , Mental Peace.

The North Direction

Nani said that lighting diya in North will always keep Wealth, Success, and Prosperity inside your house and will keep coming as it will give blessing of Lord Kuber.
Lord Kuber will bless the house which has lighted diya in Nort Direction it attracts the divine energy and stores inside the house which creates the sources which bring Dhaan (Wealth) ,Dhanya (Food - Grains) and Samruddhi (Prosperity)

Lighiting Diya creates the source by which the Positive Energy enteres in house which clears all the black karmic blockages and clears all the dosh inside the house and create satvik atmosphere which awakes the spiritual knowlege of all members of the family.

2. Near the Tulsi Plant

Mata Laxmi came to earth in from of Tulsi Devi from Vaikuntha and my Nani said we must keep this holy plant in center of house or in front of house as per size of our house and daily keep Diya near it as its honor Mata Laxmi and Lord Vishnu.

So it blesses our family with Good health and Maa Laxmi always keep the house fill with lots of wealth in form of Gold , Silver and Daimond and currency , Maa Laxmi creates sources by which wealth keeps coming and Lord Vishnu clears all blockages that comes in the path of success.

My Nani told that if diya is lighted near Tulsi Plant then it creates satvik atmosphere in the house which connects the blessing source of Mata Laxmi and Lord Vishnu.
So Divine Energies of these Devi Devta enters and stays inside the house.

3. The Right Side of the Main Door Threshold

The Main Door is the source from which all types of energies enter house if Diya is placed on the right side of the Main Door then all Negative energies are blocked and only satvik Positive energies of Diety enter the house.

Maa Laxmi will enter the house if only positive Urga(Energy) is present inside the house , the vibrations connect the diety and then the entry is done in same way all black karma are flushed outside from home keeping it away.
